Očajan da spasi svoju bolesnu ćerku, radnik Ben Ričards (Richards) biva ubeđen od strane šarmantnog, ali nemilosrdnog producenta Trkača (The Running Man) da uđe u smrtonosnu takmičarsku igru kao poslednje utočište. Međutim, Benov prkos, instinkti i hrabrost pretvaraju ga u neočekivanog miljenika publike – i pretnju celom sistemu. Kako gledanost vrtoglavo raste, tako raste i opasnost, a Ben mora da nadmudri ne samo Lovce, već i naciju zavisnu od gledanja njegovog pada.
