Radnja filma smeštena je u savremeni Njujork, gde Kleri Frej, naizgled obična tinejdžerka, otkriva neobičnu istinu o sebi. Ona je potomak loze Lovaca na senke, tajnog reda mladih polu-anđela, ratnika, zarobljenih u drevnoj borbi za spas našeg sveta od demona. Nakon što joj je majka misteriozno nestala, Kleri je primorana da se pridruži Lovcima na senke, koji je upoznaju sa opasnostima “druge strane” Njujorka, mestom nazvanim Donji Svet u kome vladaju demoni, vešci, vampiri, vukodlaci i druga smrtonosna stvorenja.
