Pripadniku odreda za demontiranje bombi glavni neprijatelj je neuhvatljivi bobaš i ucenjivač Hauard Pejn. On postavlja bombu u gradski autobus pun putnika koji ništa ne sumnjaju. Ako brzina padne ispod 50 km/h, autobus će eksplodirati. O svemu ovome obaveštava policajca (Rivs) koji mora da pronađe način da autobus uvek ide određenom brzinom. U tome mu pomaže En Poter (Sandra Bulok), putnica koja u jednom trenutku, postaje vozač zlosrećnog autobusa.
