Uključivši stari radio prijemnik policajac uspostavlja kontakt sa davno umrlim ocem u prošlosti te ga nastoji spasiti izmjenjujući tijek događaja.
John Sullivan (James Caviezel) je 36godišnji policajac iz New Yorka kojeg muči depresija nakon prekida s djevojkom. Prije 30 godina njegov je otac, vatrogasac Frank (Dennis Quaid), poginuo spašavajući unesrećenu ženu u požaru što John nikada nije preboleo.
Cijeli ga je život proganjao taj nesretni 12.10.1969. kada je otac stradao, prije svega činjenica da ne može promijeniti prošlost. Uskoro bi ipak mogao dobiti priliku. Naime uključivši staru očevu amatersku radio-stanicu, John uspostavlja kontakt sa nepoznatim muškarcem, za kojeg ubrzo shvati da je njegov otac 30 godina u prošlosti.
John upozorava oca na tragediju koja će uslediti te tako menja prošlost i spašava mu život. U tome i uspeva, no istovremeno pokreće sled događaja u koji će ugroziti život njegove majke.
